Wordy Wednesday - March 14

“Those who profess to favor freedom and yet depreciate agitation, are people who want crops without plowing the ground; they want rain without thunder and lightning; they want the ocean without the roar of its many waters. Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will.” -- Frederick Douglass

Dying Time Protocol - Life News Story - St. Joseph

Dying Time Protocol - Life News Story - St. Joseph:

'via Blog this'

This is a beautiful way of dealing with the ever-present specter of death in nursing homes. It's gentle, honest, and accepting. Although I'd personally take a more interfaith approach, catering it to the person who was dying (and their family), it should be noted that it is a Catholic hospital so it's reasonable to assume most of the people there are Catholic. Regardless, it is respectful, and that is what counts.

Wordy Wednesday - March 7

‎"All that you seek is already within you. In Hinduism it is called the Atman, in Buddhism the pure Buddha-Mind. Christ said, 'the kingdom of heaven is within you.' Quakers call it the ‘still small voice within.’ This is the space of full awareness that is in harmony with all the universe, and thus is wisdom itself." -- Ram Dass

"It's not the highs and lows that we can judge our lives by, but everything in between." -- Kristy Powell

"All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered; the point is to discover them." -- Galileo Galilei

“Speaking or writing without thinking is like shooting without aiming.” -- Arnold Glasow

His Holiness the Dalai Lama

From HH's G+ account:

Live Webcast: Teaching from the Jataka Tales

There will be a live webcast of His Holiness the Dalai Lama's short teaching from the Jataka Tales (Life Stories of the Buddha) from the Main Tibetan Temple in Dharamsala, India, on March 8, 2012. His Holiness will speak in Tibetan with simultaneous English, Chinese and Russian language translations available.

The teachings start at approximately 8:30am Indian Standard Time (GMT+5.30). The live webcasts can be viewed at http://dalailama.com/liveweb

For times in your area 8:30am Indian Standard Time on March 8th in Dharamsala, India, is the same as 7:00pm Pacific Standard Time on March 7th in Los Angeles, California, USA.

The teaching will be available for viewing and download after the event at http://dalailama.com/

Just a note - I was unable to figure out the time change using a standard converter. I can change 8:30am IST to 7:30pm PST, but not 7pm, so you might want to arrive a bit early or be prepared to wait. India has a LOT of time zones, but 6:30pm on March 7th is the earliest, so if you're keeping an eye on it by then you'll definitely get to watch. That would be 9:30pm EST, for those of us on the east coast.
